Wichita's Matt Summers Named Oakley CHL Player of the Week

GLENDALE, AZ (January 2, 2012) -The Central Hockey League announced today that Wichita's Matt Summers has been named the Oakley Central Hockey League Player of the Week for the period ending January 1, 2012. Earlier in the season, Summers was named the top player in the month of October.

Summers was on fire last week scoring goals in all three Wichita games, all wins, and finishing the week with eight points. The Savage, Minnesota native scored six times with two assists and was a gaudy +7 during the explosive week for the Thunder.

On Tuesday, the 6-2, 195-pound forward scored a goal and had an assist in Wichita's 5-0 win against Missouri. He followed that up with a two goal, one assist effort in his team's 4-3 win versus Texas (his goal was the game winner) and on Saturday, he had maybe his best performance of the season scoring a hat trick with an assist in Wichita's 7-5 win at Evansville.

On the season, Summers has 12 goals with 10 assists in 20 games played.

Wichita has won three straight games and sit atop the Berry Conference with a 20-8-1 record.
