Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, Kans. - Neither the Wichita Wingnuts or the Gary SouthShore RailCats could push across any runs as the two clubs concluded their two-game exhibition set with a scoreless tie Saturday evening at Eck Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University.
Jon Link started on the hill for Wichita (1-0-2), and the veteran righty was sharp in his first outing of the exhibition season, fanning the side in two of his four innings, and allowing just two hits.
Behind Link, Seth Harvey, and Alex Boshers each worked a pair of scoreless frames, while Frankie Reed posted a zero in the ninth. The Wingnuts staff allowed two runs in their two games with the RailCats, and has now allowed a total of four runs in their three exhibition contests.
Unfortunately for the Wichita staff, the offense could not muster much against a Gary staff that racked up nine strikeouts in the ballgame. The Wingnuts best opportunity of the night to score was in the seventh, when the first three batters all singled. On the third of those singles however, Zack Cox was thrown out trying to score from second base, and Wichita came up empty.
The Wingnuts continue their five-game exhibition slate on Sunday at Eck Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on 1410 AM KGSO and online via TuneIn.
The ninth season of Wichita Wingnuts baseball begins on Thursday, May 19th at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium against the Lincoln Saltdogs. For information on season tickets, group outings, and party packages, call the Wingnuts' main office at (316) 264-NUTS, or visit the Wingnuts' official website at www.wichitawingnuts.com.
