Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Calgary, AB. -- The Western Hockey League Trade Deadline came and went Thursday afternoon with a number of clubs putting the finishing touches to deals.
Among them - the Brandon Wheat Kings. After obtaining New York Islanders second round draft choice Dustin Kohn from Calgary for veteran Derek LeBlanc and a conditional fifth round draft pick, Brandon sent 17-year old defenceman Mike Cann to Lethbridge for a second round pick in the 2007 WHL bantam draft.
Following is a list of the other moves made Tuesday afternoon...
Medicine Hat traded Ryan Smith to Chilliwack Bruins for a conditional 6th round bantam draft pick in 2007.
Prince Albert sent a 7th round pick to Portland for 17-year old blueliner Mike McDonald.
Tigers dealt Michal Psurny to the Kootenay Ice for Marek Curila.
Swift Current moved 20-year old Derek Price and Michael Hengen to the Saskatoon Blades for Brandon Tidball, Dane Crowley and a 6th round draft choice.
Blades also moved Evan Haw, Kevin Armstrong and a third round pick to the Spokane Chiefs for overager Chad Klassen, Joe Logan, David Schulz and goalkeeper Jim Watt.
Everett sent Jesse Burt and a fifth round draft choice to Prince Albert in exchange for Kyle Howarth.
Saskatoon traded a 7th round bantam draft choice to the Silvertips for Brennan Zasitko.
Calgary sent Isaac Reid and a draft pick to Lethbridge for a fourth round pick in the 2006 draft.
Red Deer Rebels dealt Mathew Hansen and goalkeeper Andrew Leslie to the Moose Jaw Warriors for Josh Lepp and defenceman Jordan Henry.
Henry and Lepp are expected to make their Red Deer debuts on Wednesday when the Rebels face off against the Wheat Kings at Brandon's Keystone Centre.
In other WHL news -- the league has announced that left-winger Ryan Reaves can return to action tonight after serving a 2-game suspension for an elbowing major that he received during last Friday's 5-1 victory over the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes.
