WhiteWings Sign Pair of Pitchers

Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today they have signed right-handed pitchers Juan Peralta and Manuel Santillan.

A 23-year old out of Santiago, Dominican Republic, Peralta comes to the WhiteWings after spending the last two seasons in the Texas Rangers organization, where he compiled a 3-3 record with a 5.57 ERA. In 41 relief appearances, he picked up six saves. In 64.2 innings, he has struck out 67 while allowing 61 hits and 31 walks. Peralta spent last season with Spokane of the Northwest League.

A 29-year old out of Higuey, Dominican Republic, Santillan pitched in the Houston Astros farm system from 2000-through-2003 before splitting 2004 between Mid-Missouri on the Frontier League and Montreal Expos Florida State League affiliate Brevard County.

Santiallan reached AA Round Rock in 2003, where he gave up five runs in three innings over the course of five games.

For his career, Santillan is 15-18 with a 4.22 ERA. In 120 games (26 starts), he has pitched 283.2 innings, striking out 231 while allowing 261 hits and 155 walks.

Spring Training gets underway tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. at Harlingen Field.

The WhiteWings open the 2009 season against the Coastal Bend Thunder on Thursday, June 11 at Harlingen Field. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6:05. It's Thirsty Thursday, meaning $1 draft beers.

The WhiteWings are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas. In its fourth season, the United League is preparing for a great summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Coastal Bend, Laredo, Harlingen and San Angelo. Opening Day is June 11.
