Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today that they are seeking host families for their players for the 2009 season.
Host families not only get the opportunity to bond with professional baseball players on a personal level, but two season tickets for each player they sponsor. The players get to save a little money and the opportunity to have a sense of normalcy in a family atmosphere while living in a new city.
"This is a great way for members of the community to create memories that will last a lifetime. Usually, the player will become an extended part of the family. The bonds created over the summer last well beyond baseball season," WhiteWings General Manager Cory Dirsken said.
Some WhiteWings players have already arrived in Harlingen and they will all be in town by June 1 for training and workouts. The season starts on June 11 with a 7:05 p.m. game against the Coastal Bend Thunder at Harlingen Field.
Host families must provide lodging and a location where the player can safely park his car. They are not required to provide transportation, food or access to a phone.
Anyone interested in becoming a host family should contact the WhiteWings office at (956) 423-WING (9464).
