WhiteWings Invite Two to Spring Training Out of Open Tryout

HARLINGEN - The North American League's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced Saturday that they have invited right-handed pitcher Rashad Ford (6-1, 205, Texas Southern) and outfielder Tim Rotola (6-1, 175, Liberty) to Spring Training after an open tryout at Harlingen Field.

A 25-year old native of East Bernard, Ford last pitched for the Evansville Otters (Frontier League) in 2009, going 3-5 with a 5.14 ERA. In 14 games (11 starts), Ford pitched 63 innings, striking out 43 and walking 35.

A 23-year old out of Wichita, Kansas, Rotola is entering his third season of professional baseball. Last year, Rotola played for the St. George Roadrunners (Golden League), hitting .226 with four RBI in 19 games. Rotola played for Coastal (Continental League) in 2009, hitting .203 with one home run and four RBI in 20 games.

The WhiteWings open Spring Training with their first organized practice on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Harlingen Field.

The WhiteWings open the regular season with a four game series against the Edinburg Roadrunners at Edinburg Baseball Stadium May 25-through-28. The WhiteWings host the new McAllen Thunder in their home opening series from May 29-through-June 1.
