WhiteWings Fall to 0-6 Against Roadrunners

Harlingen - Arlon Quiroz hit a three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings fell to 0-6 against the Edinburg Roadrunners after a 9-6 loss Thursday at Harlingen Field.

It was the third home run of the season for Quiroz.

The Roadrunners (20-7) jumped on Luis Montano (3-2) right away. Wilmer Pino led off with a four-putch walk and stole second. After Felix Molina reached on an infield-single, Wilson Batista hit an RBI-single. Ambiorix Concepcion singled to load the bases, but Vincent Blue grounded into a double play as Molina scored. Carlos Hereaud followed with an RBI-single to make it 3-0.

Blue hit his first home run of the season with one out in the third to make it 4-0.

The WhiteWings (14-14) responded against Mark DiBernardo (3-1) in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Eric Gonzalez drew a one-out walk, Kevin Griffin singled and Joel Roa hit a two-run double. Domenic Di Ricco followed with an RBI-double to make it 4-3.

That was it against DiBernardo, who allowed eight hits and four walks while striking out two in seven innings.

The Roadrunners put runners at first and third with nobody out in the top of the fifth. Concepcion grounded into a double play to score the run, making it 5-3.

With one out in the top of the sixth, Robert Matlock hit a ground-rule double and Alexis Hernandez reached on an error. Osiel Flores hit an RBI-single to knock out Montano. Jason Moody came in and allowed a three-run home run to Pino, his second, to make it 9-3.

The WhiteWings and Roadrunners play game three of this four-game series on Fan Fly Away Friday, presented by Allegiant Air, Univision, Que Pasa and Jose 101 at 7:05 p.m., when one lucky fan will win two free round trip tickets on Allegiant Air. Gates open at 6:05. Right-hander Misael DeJesus (0-2) is expected to face right-hander Eric Montoya (4-1).
