San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, TX - For the second-straight night the Colts got some solid pitching against the Thunder. After Brian Henschel went the distance in San Angelo's win on Wednesday, starter Aaron Cunningham went six scoreless on Thursday night from Foster Field as the Colts defeated the Thunder 7-3 in game two of a four-game series from Foster Field.

San Angelo drew first blood in the second on a two-run homer by leftfielder Jason Crosland, his ninth of the season. San Angelo would then add two more runs in the third on a RBI single from designated hitter Jason Landreth, and an RBI double from third baseman Landon Camp to give the Colts a 4-0 lead.

The home team added to their lead with a three-run sixth. The scoring started on a sac fly by first baseman Josh Collazo, which preceded a two-run blast from Landreth (7) to stretch the Colts' lead to 7-0.

The Thunder scored three runs in the seventh on an RBI single from rightfielder Alex Fernandez, a fielding error from the Colts and an RBI double from shortstop Albert Gonzalez. But that was as close as Coastal Bend got as the Colts bullpen shut them down the rest of the way with Chace Vacek pitching two scoreless innings to close things out.

Landreth led the Colts offensively by going 2-5 with a homer, single, two RBI and two runs scored while Butch Ballez chipped in by going 3-4 with three singles and a run scored. Gonzalez led the Thunder attack by going 2-4 with a double and an RBI.

Aaron Cunningham (2-3) got the win for the Colts going six scoreless innings, allowing six hits and striking out two. He pitched in and out of trouble all night as the Thunder left 11 runners on base in his time on the mound. J.J. Trujillo (2-3) took the loss for Coastal Bend while allowing seven earned runs on 13 hits in 5.2 innings of work. The Colts and Thunder will square-off in game two of their four-game series tomorrow beginning at 7:05. Alex Morales (0-1, 18.71 ERA) will go for San Angelo against Frank James (2-1, 4.35 ERA) of the Thunder. Tomorrow is also the Jersey Auction at Foster Field benefiting the Children's Miracle Network and presented by Foster Communications. Fans can bid for the jerseys silently during the game with proceeds going to charity. The game can be heard on 1260 KKSA with the Kemps Pregame Show getting things started at 6:50.
