WhiteWings Bat Around Twice, Win Pre-Season Opener

Harlingen - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and four more in the bottom of the seventh to pull away in a 12-2 win over the University of Tamaulipas-Reynosa Buffalos tonight at Harlingen Field.

With one out in the sixth, Domenic Di Ricco walked and Arlon Quiroz singled against Ignacio Orea. Jeff Toth followed with a two-run double and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-2 WhiteWings (1-0).

Brad Menadier led off the seventh with a double and scored on Quiroz's home run. Toth reached on an error. One out later, Jerry Cervantez singled and Robert Peterson walked to load the bases. Joel Roa reached on an error to score one run and then Kevin Dietrich got hit by a pitch to force in another run, making it 10-2.

In the eighth, Jose Fulgencio hit a two-out double and scored when Eric Gonzalez reached on an error. After a Cervantez walk, Javis Davis doubled to complete the scoring.

Tyler Schill and Bobby Brown drew leadoff walks for the WhiteWings against Gerardo Leal (0-1) in the first inning and then pulled off a double-steal. After a one-out walk to Toth, an errant pickoff throw allowed Schill to score while Brown and Toth moved up. Brown scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.

The Buffalos (0-1) responded against Luis Montano (1-0) in the fifth. With two outs, Alberto Fernandez doubled and Hector Diaz hit an RBI-single. Raymnudo Ramirez followed with an RBI-double to tie the game 2-2.

Peterson broke the tie with the WhiteWings' first hit of the game, a two-out solo home run to leftfield in the fifth to make it 3-2.

The WhiteWings host the Edinburg Roadrunners in their final pre-season contest tomorrow at 11:05 a.m. at Harlingen Field. Gates open at 10:05.
