Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX- The Amarillo Dillas Baseball Club announced several transactions this morning including the acquisition of LHP Chris Ingoglia and INF Jermel Lomack from the Washington Wild Things and the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the Frontier League and Northern League, respectively. In addition to the roster moves, the club also officially announced the hiring of former MLB player and Lubbock Christian University standout, John Harris.
Ingoglia, a native of Plantation, Florida, was originally selected by the Florida Marlins in the 18th round of the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft out of Stetson University. Ingoglia spent one season in the Marlins farm system where he appeared in 13 games posting a 1-5 record working 35.2 innings primarily out of the bullpen during three stops that included GCL Marlins, Jamestown, and Jupiter of the Gulf Coast League, New York-Penn League, and Florida State League. He was released by the Marlins following the 2007 season and signed with Florence of the Frontier League in 2008. Last year he split time between the Washington Wild Things and River City Rascals, both of the Frontier League, where he appeared in 22 games making 16 starts posting a record of 6-9 striking out 80 batters while issuing only 37 free passes in 92.0 innings of work. Ingoglia was acquired from the Wild Things in exchange for a player to be named later.
Lomack, a native of Los Angeles, California, was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 14th round of the 2004 MLB Amateur Draft out of Prairie View A&M University. Lomack spent two seasons playing for the Buccos appearing in 130 games batting .262 to go along with 10 doubles, 1 triple, and swiping 60 bases in 76 attempts, with 434 official at-bats. During this time he split playing time between Williamsport and Hickory of the New York-Penn League and South Atlantic League, respectively. Lomack was signed by the Gary SouthShore RailCats from first ever multi-league independent pro baseball tryouts that resulted in twenty three players being signed and invited to spring training by 21 different teams, held by the Golden League and Northern League back in early April. Lomack was acquired from the RailCats in exchange for a player to be named later.
In unrelated transactions, the Dillas also announced the addition of John Harris as their hitting coach for the 2010 season. Harris, a native of Portland, Oregon, was originally selected by the California Angels in the 29th round of the 1976 MLB Amateur Draft. Harris made his MLB debut on September 26, 1979 with his final MLB game on October 3, 1981. In three seasons with Angels, Harris played in 56 games for the Halos posting career offensive numbers that include a .258 batting average with 8 doubles, 5 homeruns, and 16 RBI, in 131 official plate appearances. After his MLB career, Harris has spent over 20 years managing and coaching in professional baseball where he has been regarded as one of the finest hitting instructors by his peers but is most notable for his ability to procure players.
Harris is no stranger to Amarillo as he served as the Dillas' manager during the 2004 season and has lived here during the off-season for over 15 years. Former MLB pitcher and Dillas' general manger Mark Lee has known Harris for nearly 30 years and is excited about the tangibles he brings to the organization. "Harry (John Harris) brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will benefit this organization tremendously not only on the field but also in the community", Lee said. "John will work with our hitters on a daily basis which is a luxury for our players both young and veteran; needless to say we are both excited and honored to have him back with the Dillas".
ULB Opening Day 2010 is Thursday, May 27 when the Dillas travel to San Angelo for a two-game series against the Colts. The reigning United League Champions will open their home schedule Saturday, May 29, when the Colts follow the Dillas back to Amarillo to play a four-game series.
