WhiteWings announce 2007 summer league schedule

HARLINGEN, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings will open their second season in United League Baseball at home on Tuesday, May 8 with postgame fireworks against the Amarillo Dillas at historic Harlingen Field. That opening six-game homestand includes a three-game series against the defending ULB champion Alexandria Aces.

In its second year of existence, the ULB will increase its schedule from 90 to 100 games for the 2007 season. The 50 home dates conclude with the regular season finale and Fan Appreciation fireworks on Wednesday, August 22 at home against the San Angelo Colts.

Once again, the WhiteWings have designated their "Big 10" home dates. These games feature the 10 biggest promotions of the year. Kids Club members are admitted free. They are also the games for the mini-season ticket plan ($60 for box seats and $40 for reserved grandstand).

The "Big 10" dates are: Tuesday, May 8 vs. Amarillo (opening night); Saturday, May 12 vs. Alexandria; Friday, May 25 vs. San Angelo; Saturday, June 9 vs. Laredo; Friday, June 22 vs. Amarillo; Saturday, June 23 vs. Amarillo; Saturday, July 7 vs. Laredo; Friday, July 27 vs. Edinburg; Saturday, August 11 vs. Alexandria; and Wednesday, Aug 22 vs. San Angelo (Fan Appreciation Night with postgame fireworks).

Season tickets for all 50 home dates are $300 for box seats and $200 for reserved grandstand (a $1 saving per game). All games start at 7:05 p.m. unless elsewhere noted.

The slate includes 10 home dates against rival Edinburg - May 29-31, July 27-29, and Aug. 13-16. This year's all-star break is July 10-12 with the all-star game being played July 11 at Amarillo.

Other highlights of the 2007 schedule:

- Wednesday, May 9 vs. Amarillo - The annual "School Appreciation Day" with a special 11:05 a.m. start. This outing/field trip is an opportunity for teachers to bring the game back to the classroom to teach addition, division and percentages. General admission tickets are $2 each. The special lunch includes $1 hot dogs, $1 sodas and $1 chips for students.

- Wednesday, Aug. 1 vs. Amarillo - "Splash Day Extravaganza" when the ballpark is turned into a giant water park. Targeted to day care centers, the ballpark will have a mini pool, dunk tank, and sprinklers. Water guns, water balloons and leis will be passed out as children enter the ballpark. After the game, children run the bases and do a slip & slide from third base to home plate.

- As requested by fans, Sunday games were pushed back one hour to 7:05 p.m.

The Wings will also be home on Mother's Day (Sunday, May 13 against Alexandria) and Memorial Day (Monday, May 28 against San Angelo).

Eddie Dennis returns for his second year as field manager, along with a number of core players from the 2006 team.
