Published on January 23, 2007 under United League Baseball (ULB) News Release
Edinburg, TX; January 23, 2006 - United League Baseball (ULB) has released the schedule for the six team United League Baseball 2007 season. All six teams will open play on Tuesday May 8th. The Laredo Broncos will begin their season at home hosting the defending ULB Champion Alexandria Aces. The Edinburg Coyotes, the 2006 regular season champion, will host the San Angelo Colts and the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings will host the Amarillo Dillas on the ULB's opening week. The league has increased the amount of regular season games to 100, with each team playing each other 20 times.
United League Baseball will also be switching its playoff qualifier format for its second season of play. The league will be a split-season format which will crown a first-half and second-half champion. These two champions will be the lone qualifiers for the 2007 ULB Postseason. Should a single team win both halves; a wild-card winner will be awarded to the team with the second best overall record. The two playoff qualifiers will meet in a major league style best-of-seven ULB Championship Series in a 2-3-2 site format. The first-half winner will receive home field advantage for the ULB Championship Series, hosting games 1 and 2, and games 6 and 7 if necessary.
"We are excited about the schedule and the new playoff format," said ULB President Craig Brasfield. "The structure allows us to give teams to have a clean slate mid-season and still have a chance to qualify for the playoffs."
The ULB is also announcing that the 2007 All-Star Game will be held July 11th at Potter County Memorial Stadium in Amarillo, Texas. Format for the All-star game will be announced at a later date.
United League Baseball is an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas and Louisiana. The United League is preparing for its second season this summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Laredo, Harlingen, and San Angelo, Texas; and Alexandria, Louisiana. The ULB will play a 100-game schedule between May and August 2006. Opening Day for all of United League Baseball is May 8, 2007.
