Whiteside to Join Bighorns on NBA Assignment from Kings

November 29, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Reno Bighorns News Release

RENO, Nev.- Sacramento Kings rookie center Hassan Whiteside will join the undefeated Reno Bighorns on an NBA assignment, the Kings and Bighorns jointly announced today. Whiteside will be active for Reno's game against the Idaho Stampede Wednesday in the Reno Events Center.

Whiteside, who was selected by the Kings in the second round of the 2010 NBA Draft, is the second NBA assignee in Bighorns history. The first, forward Donte Greene, was sent to Reno from Sacramento in the 2008-09 season and averaged 20.4 points over five games.

Whiteside's assignment marks the ninth time this season an NBA player has been assigned to an NBA Development League affiliate.

A seven-foot, 235-pound center, Whiteside starred at Marshall University before the Kings selected him as an early-entry candidate with the 33rd overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. With the Thundering Herd last season, Whiteside led the country in blocks per game (5.4) and was named Conference USA Freshman of the Year and C-USA Defensive Player of the Year. He was also an AP All-American honorable mention pick.

Whiteside earned the start in all six games for the Kings in the 2010 NBA Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 6.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and a team-best 2.3 blocks per game. He has appeared in one regular season game for the Kings this season, logging two minutes off the bench in an October win at Minnesota.

Whiteside and the first-place Bighorns complete their season-opening five-game homestand this Wednesday against the Idaho Stampede. Tip-time is set for 11 a.m. in the Reno Events Center. Tickets are on-sale now.

Reno Bighorns group tickets and fan experience packages are on sale now by calling the Bighorns front office at (775) 284-2NBA or visiting RenoBighorns.com. Fans can high-five the players, play a game-before-the-game on the Bighorns court, perform a talent routine and more.
