Great Falls Voyagers News Release
NEW MINI STREAK: Since losing their season-high tenth straight game Friday night to Ogden, the White Sox have won their last two. Great Falls posted a dramatic 6-5 ten inning triumph last evening in the opener of a three game series with Pioneer League Southern Division first half champ Orem. The Sox grabbed a 2-1 lead on a two run single by Matt Sharp in the fifth inning, but saw the Owlz plate two in the top of the sixth off of reliever Pat Feehan. Great Falls reclaimed the edge with two in the bottom of the sixth aided by two errors on Orem third baseman Abel Nieves. The White Sox extended that 4-3 lead to 5-3 in the eighth on an RBI ground-out by Mike Grace (his second RBI of the afternoon). The top of the ninth proved disastrous for Great Falls as OF Santo Garcia and SS Scott Madsen committed errors that opened the door for two Orem runs and a tie game going to the tenth. In the tenth inning Lee Cruz reached second on a two base throwing error on third baseman Tadd Brewer, moved to third on a fielder's choice off the bat of John Shelby and scored on an infield single off the bat of Garcia for the victory. The win was the White Sox third Sunday walk-off triumph of the series. Great Falls sits 6-16 22 games into the season's second half, trailing Northern Division front-runner Billings by ten games. Tonight is the second of a three game series with Orem and the sixth game of a seven game home stand for Great Falls.
SOX GO TO CLEVELAN TO EXTEND STREAK: The White Sox turn to 19 year old RHP Clevelan Santilez tonight in hopes of extending their modest win streak in three in a row. The young Venezuelan native will be looking for his second victory of the season against five setbacks. He brings a 5.28 earned run average into the clash with the Owlz. Santilez has lost his last two decisions surrendering six earned runs on nine hits in 10.2 innings of work against Billings August 6 and Ogden August 16. Santilez missed his August 11 start at Billings due to illness. His best effort game June 29 versus Billings as he held the Mustangs to no runs on one hit in five innings on the mound with seven strike-outs. He began this season at Class A Kannapolis of the South Atlantic League, posting an 0-2 record and 6.85 ERA in 16 relief appearances.
