Quad City Steamwheelers News Release
DAVENPORT, Iowa â The Quad City Steamwheelers, the number one seeded team in the 27 member af2 league playoffs, plan to set a new record that will likely never show up in the af2 record book this Saturday, Aug. 9 as the âWheelers host the Arkansas Twisters at the MARK of the Quad Cities.
The team's goal is to shoot over 300 specially made Steamwheelers blue playoff t-shirts into the stands and the outstretched arms of the fans primarily by way of the "steam-blaster" cannon, to express the Steamwheelers appreciation to the "best fans in the af2." They might also get a mention in the Guinness Book of World Records someday if all goes well.
The special t-shirts are being provided by Pepsi and A.D. Huesing Co., (the local Quad City area bottler) Quad City area Hardees Restaurants and Keith and Company of Princeton, Ia. the team's official screenprinter.
Some of the shirts will be thrown into the seating areas by Deckmate Cheerleaders, but most will be launched out of the "steam-blaster" cannon which is powered by CO2, courtesy of Prax Air of the Quad Cities.
To reach the 300 shirt goal, Operations Manager Todd Terry, plans to fire shirts after most plays and at every time out and break. A typical Arena Football game lasts about 2 hours and 15 minutes, so Terry says he will have to deliver more than one shirt every minute to make his goal.
He plans to hit every seating section in the arena. To do so, the "steam-blaster" will move around to various spots in the arena so every fan gets a chance to get a free shirt. He expects to go through 9-10 tanks of CO2 in the process.
The blue t-shirts are a focal point of the Wheelers promotional campaign leading into the August 9 playoff game. The team wants to see the visiting Twisters feeling very blue about having to play the #1 af2 team in front of what many around the league feel is the most vocal, enthusiastic fans. All Quad City fans are being asked to wear blue for the game to enhance that blue feeling for the Little Rock based team. The Twisters will match their #1 ranked defense against the highly potent Wheelers offensive machine (ranked #2).
The sale of tickets for the game (at $7, $10 and $12) have escalated in pace the last two days and are on sale at the Mark Box Office and through Ticketmaster.
