AND THE WINNER IS... All of the votes have been calculated and your choice for the 2003 Louisville Fire MVP is Fire FB/LB Demetrius Forney. After 5 impressive games in 2002 Forney returned to the Fire in 2003 with a better understanding of Arena Football. On offense Forney rushed 36 times for 128 yards and 10 touchdowns, and caught 2 passes for 26 yards and one touchdown. Forney made a major impact on the defensive side of the ball as well. Forney recorded 33.5 tackles including 6.5 tackles for a loss. Forney also had 5 sacks, one pass break-up, 2 quarterback hurries, and a safety.

2004 SEASON TICKETS are now on sale. Tickets start at just $49 for all eight home games. New for 2004 every season ticket account will receive free parking for all eight home games and their will be a new kids zone in Freedom Hall. Also for every $100 you spend on tickets you will be entered into a monthly drawing for various prizes such as NFL tickets, NFL memorabilia, trips, ect. For the month of August anyone who renews or buys tickets and pays will have a chance to win two tickets to a World Series game. FIRE PROVES IT HAS THE BEST FANS IN af2... For the second consecutive season the Fire has lead the league in attendance averaging 8,738 fans a game. Four of the Fire's eight home games were in the top five of league attendance including 11,888 on July 19.

ROAD TO THE ARENACUP... The league playoffs began last Friday night with the Hawaiian Islanders defeating the Wichita Stealth 57-30. On Saturday night the Macon Knights defeated last season's American Conference Champions the Florida Firecats 42-35. Also on Saturday the Arkansas Twisters beat the Bakersfield Blitz 36-28 and the Mohegan Wolves upset the Cape Fear Wildcats 50-47. On Friday the Wolves will head south to Tennessee Valley and challenge the Vipers at 8:30 p.m. Hawaii will travel to Tulsa on Saturday to take on the Talons at 8:30 p.m. The Macon Knights will travel to Albany to battle the Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and the Twisters will travel to Quad City to take on the Steamwheelers at 8:30 p.m. For all of the latest information on the af2 playoffs and the road to the 2003 ArenaCup visit af2.com.

CAN AXE PULL A PLANE??? Probably not by himself, but AXE will join other mascots from around the city of Louisville in the Special Olympics Plane Pull at the airport on Saturday August 16.

FIRE COLLECTABLE'S... Despite our season being over there are still a few Big Red schedule cans floating around town. If you see any 12 packs with our schedule on it let us know where they are by responding to the FIRE WIRE.

THE GRAND RE-OPENING of Toy's R Us on Dixie Highway and the Outer Loop will take place on Friday August 15 from 8-10 a.m. and Fire players, cheerleaders, AXE, and head coach Tommy Johnson will be on hand for the grand reopening.

MEMORIAL FUND ESTABLISHED FOR JULIAN YEARWOOD... Bakersfield Blitz FB/LB Julian Yearwood collapsed on the bench during a game last month in Witchta. Yearwood was rushed to the hospital and later passed away. The Bakersfield Blitz has set-up the The Bakersfield Blitz in care of Julian Yearwood Jr. Memorial Fund to assist Julian's 12 year-old son Julian Jr. Anyone wishing to make a donation may do so by sending it to 4600 Ashe Road, Bakersfield, CA 93313 or by phone at (661) 634-9132.

COACHING WATCH... The Fire has a few players helping out at local high schools as assistant coaches during 2003. Fire FB/LB Demetrius Forney is an assistant coach at Clarksville High School in Southern Indiana and Fire WR/LB Alfonzo Browning returns to J-Town High School as an assistant this season. Fire assistant coach Oscar Brohm is also an assistant at Trinity High School. As the season progress we will keep you updated on each teams progress.
