Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings bring the curtain down on their 2007-2008 Western Hockey League regular season Saturday night at Westman Communications Group Place when they complete a weekend home and home series with the Regina Pats.
The Pats took the series opener Friday night before over 6,000 fans at the Brandt Centre in Regina. Scott Doucet's Overtime Shootout goal was the difference as the Pats edged the Wheat Kings 3-2.
Scott Glennie scored both goals in a losing cause for the Wheat Kings, who slipped into third place in the Eastern Division as Swift Current defeated Moose Jaw 4-3 in other action Friday night.
The 41-24-3-3 Wheat Kings enter Saturday's finale with 88 points, good for seventh place in the Eastern Conference - one point behind Swift Current. The Broncos host Moose Jaw Saturday night to close out their regular season schedule.
While the race for sixth and seventh place in the Conference is still very much alive, the top of the Conference is a real logjam with three points separating the top five teams. Calgary remains on top with 95 points, followed by Regina at 94, the Medicine Hat Tigers have 93 while Kootenay and Lethbridge are tied with 92 points each, with two games to play.
Kootenay hosts Calgary tonight in the first of a home and home weekend series, Medicine Hat hosts Lethbridge tonight and the 'Canes will play their final game - Sunday night at home to the Edmonton Oil Kings.
In other words, Brandon's first round playoff opponent won't be determined until Sunday night. Games one and two will be played on the road Easter weekend with the series then shifting back to Brandon the following week.
Tickets to tonight's game as well as Brandon's first two playoff home games are on sale now at the Keystone box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca.
