Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings kept their hopes of finishing first in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Division alive Tuesday night with a 4-3 victory over the front running Blades in Saskatoon.

Jay Fehr scored twice including the winner as the Wheat Kings salvaged the final regular season game between the Eastern Division's top two teams.

The victory came on the heels of back to back weekend losses to the Blades at Westman Place.

With the win, the Wheat Kings pulled back to within six points of Saskatoon, with a game in hand. That game will be made up Wednesday when Brandon closes out a 2-game Saskatchewan road trip in Prince Albert against the Raiders.

Rookies Mark Stone and Paul Ciarelli also scored for the Wheat Kings, who wiped out a 1-0 first period deficit with three second period goals.

Milan Kytnar had all three goals in a losing cause for the Blades, who fired 26 shots at Brandon goalkeeper Andrew Hayes. Saskatoon's Braden Holtby meanwhile had 22 saves in the Blades' net.

Following Wednesday's game, the Wheat Kings will return home to play the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night. Tickets to Friday's game are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or by going online at ticketmaster.ca
