Wheat Kings Re-Assign Two Ahead of Regular Season

September 18, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

The opening night roster for the Brandon Wheat Kings is closer to taking shape. With the home opener now less than five days away, the team announced a pair of roster moves that bring their blueline that much closer to being finalized.

The Wheat Kings have reassigned defensemen Gradey Hope and Emerson Clark to the U18 ranks. Both defensemen played in every game of the preseason.

Clark, a 2007-born defenseman, was the team's third round pick, 56th overall in the 2022 WHL prospects draft. He played last season with the Saskatoon Blazers in the Saskatchewan U18 AAA league, and will rejoin them for the coming season.

Hope, also born in 2007, was the next pick in the draft after Clark for the Wheat Kings, their fourth rounder at 78th overall in the 2022 WHL prospects draft. Last season he played with OHA's U18 prep program, but this season he's off to the Northern Alberta XTreme prep program.

With the reassignments, there are now eight defensemen on the team's roster, including Quinn Mantei, who is away with the Calgary Flames rookie team for the Penticton tournament. The team has a total of 23 skaters and three goalies on the roster.

The regular season begins for the Wheat Kings on Friday, September 22 when they host the Regina Pats. Puck drop is 7:00.
