Wheat Kings Rally to Beat the Broncos

Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings ran their winning streak to four games Monday afternoon with a come from behind 3-2 overtime victory over the visiting Swift Current Broncos before close to 4,000 fans at Westoba Place.

Cole Reinhardt was the overtime hero, coming out from the corner and beating Swift Current's Isaac Poulter on the stickside with just 59 seconds remaining in the five minute overtime.

The goal came moments after the Irricana, Alberta product had been robbed by Poulter on a quick one-timer following a two on one break.

The game winner capped a furious rally for the Wheat Kings, who trailed 2-1 through forty minutes of play.

The Wheat Kings, who didn't look sharp through the first half of the game, outshot the Broncos 16-2 in the third and got the tying goal from Luka Burzan on the powerplay at the 7:51 mark.

Brandon then had several chances to win the game in regulation but Poulter - who finished the game with 39 saves - was simply sensational.

Jonny Hooker had Brandon's other goal Monday while Jiri Patera registered the win, turning aside twelve shots.

Owen Blocker and Ian Briscoe scored in a losing cause for the Broncos, who opened the scoring with the only goal of period one.

With the victory, the Wheat Kings improved to 27-22-3-4 on the season, good for 61 points.

The win pulled Brandon to within two points of Red Deer, who currently occupy the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference. The Wheat Kings have also pulled to within four of seventh place Calgary and are now six points back of the sixth place Medicine Hat Tigers, who have now dropped four straight games.

The Wheat Kings will now enjoy a day off before hosting Calgary in a critical "four point game" on Wednesday night. Brandon will then close out this week's 4-game home stand Friday against the Saskatoon Blades.

Fans that attended Brandon's come back win over Edmonton last Wednesday are reminded that you have until 1pm Wednesday to turn in your February 13th tickets for a "free" ticket to Wednesday's clash between the Wheat Kings and Hitmen.

Friday night meanwhile is Tim Hortons Night, with a number of prizes to be won. It will also be the Wheat Kings last home game in three weeks as the Brier - which begins on March 2nd - invades the Keystone Centre.

Eight of Brandon's remaining twelve games will be played on the road.

Tickets to this week's games go back on sale at 10am Tuesday at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
