Wheat Kings' Quenneville Named Denny's WHL Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Brandon Wheat Kings forward Peter Quenneville is the Denny's WHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 8 th, 2015.

Quenneville collected nine points (6g-3a), in three games to help the Brandon Wheat Kings earn a pair of home wins on the week.

On Wednesday, March 4th against the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Quenneville recorded his first hat trick of the season as part of a four-point performance (3g-1a) to claim first star honours in a 7-3 victory. On Friday, March 6th, Quenneville recorded two points (1g-1a) in a 5-2 loss to the Prince Albert Raiders. The following night, Quenneville scored a pair of goals and added an assist to cap off a three-point night against the Swift Current Broncos in a 9-1 win while also claiming first star honours.

The 21-year-old Edmonton, Alberta native has gathered 70 points (26g-44a) along with a plus-21 rating in 66 games this season. The 5'11", 196 lb forward is in his second WHL campaign with the Wheat Kings. Quenneville has amassed 122 points (47g-75a) in 110 career WHL regular season contests and was selected 195th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2013 NHL entry draft.

The WHL has also nominated Carter Hart of the Everett Silvertips for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Hart, a 1998-born netminder from Sherwood Park, AB, registered a .980 goals against average and a .965 save percentage, including one shutout, while winning all three of his starts last week. On Tuesday, March 3 rd, Hart stopped 37 shots to earn a 3-2 overtime win against the Western Conference-leading Kelowna Rockets. On Friday, March 6th, Hart turned aside all 21 shots he faced on the road against the Tri-City Americans in a 1-0 defeat to pick up his fourth shutout of the season and claim first star honours. The following night, Hart stopped 25 shots to lift the Silvertips to a 3-1 victory in Vancouver against the Giants. Currently in his rookie campaign in the WHL, Hart has posted a 16-5-2-2 record with four shutouts in 27 career WHL regular season appearances.
