Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings' playoff plans remain in limbo Monday as two Western Hockey League Eastern Conference playoff series continue this week.

The Medicine Hat Tigers forced a seventh and deciding game in their Quarterfinal series with Swift Current Sunday night with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Broncos. Brennan Bosch scored twice to pace the Tigers, who will travel to Swift Current for game seven Tuesday night.

Meanwhile the Lethbridge Hurricanes will be hoping to complete a first round upset of the Saskatoon Blades when they play host to game six of their series Monday night. The 'Canes, who finished in seventh place in the Eastern Conference during the regular series, lead their opening round series with the Blades three games to two. A Saskatoon win on Monday would force a decisive game on Wednesday.

So who will the Wheat Kings meet in the Eastern Conference semi-finals, scheduled to begin this weekend?

Scenario #1;

A Hurricanes win and a Swift Current victory would mean the Wheat Kings would play the Broncos.

Scenario #2;

A Hurricanes win and a Medicine Hat win on Tuesday would mean the Wheat Kings will meet the Tigers in round two.

Scenario #3;

Should the Blades come back and win their series vs. Lethbridge, the Wheat Kings will play Saskatoon while the winner of the Medicine Hat / Swift Current series will take on the Calgary Hitmen.

The Wheat Kings, who finished the regular season in third place in the Eastern Conference, haven't played since completing a 4-game series sweep of the Kootenay Ice last Wednesday. Brayden Schenn led Brandon four goals and 8 points against the Ice.

Due to this week's Royal Manitoba Winter Fair at the Keystone Centre, the Wheat Kings will open the second round of post-season play on the road - no matter who they play in their next series.

Tickets to Brandon's second round home dates will go on sale later this week, once the WHL confirms dates and times.
