Wheat Kings Go 1-1 on Weekend Trip

Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Swift Current, SK. - The Brandon Wheat Kings split a 2-game Saskatchewan road trip this past weekend.
One night after beating the Warriors in Moose Jaw on Saturday night, the Wheat Kings fell 4-2 to the Swift Current Broncos on Sunday.
Rivers product Riley Lamb turned aside 47 shots Sunday night, backstopping the last place Broncos, who won for only the ninth time this season. It was his first appearance with Swift Current since joining the Western Hockey League club this past week.
Ian Briscoe, Ethan O'Rourke, Alex Moar and Tanner Nagel scored for the winners, who led 2-1 and 3-2 at the period breaks.
Zach Wytinck and Luka Burzan replied for the Wheat Kings, who kicked off the trip with a 3-2 victory on Saturday.
Captain Stelio Mattheos' team leading 29th goal of the season - in the second period - proved to be the winner on Saturday night in Moose Jaw as the Wheat Kings received a 27 save effort from netminder Jiri Patera.
Despite the fact his club was playing its third game in as many days, Brandon coach David Anning admitted that he was disappointed with the split - after winning a big game on Saturday.
"Very disappointing," Anning told Perry Bergson of the Brandon Sun on Sunday. "We got the job done in Moose Jaw and when we need the win today, we come up short because we weren't ready to start."
"We had countless scoring chances tonight," Anning added. "We had a lot of pucks on goal and we didn't capitalize on our opportunities. We had good with grade A scoring chance locations and we weren't able to beat the goaltender. Give him credit, he made a lot of saves. We needed to be a lot better to capitalize on our countless opportunities."
As a result of the weekend, the Wheat Kings - who played the entire weekend without veteran Linden McCorrister - begin the week with a record of 17-18-3-3 and remain in ninth place in the WHL's Eastern Conference.
The Wheat Kings don't play again until Friday night when they play host to the Kootenay Ice in the first of a 2-game weekend doubleheader.
Friday's game is Blue Bomber Night at Westoba Place and will feature Winnipeg quarterback Matt Nichols.
The Canadian Football League star will be performing the ceremonial opening face-off and will be signing autographs on the main concourse during the first intermission.
Tickets to the game go back on sale Monday morning at 10am at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
