Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. - On a night that his number 21 pink jersey went for $1,000 on 94.7 Star FM, Tyler Coulter celebrated by scoring his first ever Western Hockey League hat trick Wednesday night in leading the Brandon Wheat Kings to an 11-1 victory over the visiting Kootenay Ice.
The victory moved Brandon eight points up on second place Prince Albert in the Eastern Division and to within five points of the Eastern Conference leading Lethbridge Hurricanes.
Coulter's jersey was one of two pink jerseys to be auctioned on radio this week, in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. Twenty-one other game jerseys will be up for bids when the Wheat Kings host their 3rd Annual "Pink the Rink" night on Friday night against the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings.
Florida Panthers' prospect Jayce Hawryluk scored twice and set up four others for the winners, giving him 24 points during his current 7-game point scoring streak.
Ty Lewis, Kale Clague, Ivan Provorov, Stelio Mattheos, Jordan Thomson and Nolan Patrick also scored for the Wheat Kings, who outshot the Ice 47-18.
With his first period goal, Patrick ran his goal scoring streak to seven games, which happens to be the longest for a Brandon player since current Ottawa Senator Mark Stone had a pair of 8-game streaks during the 2011-12 campaign.
Patrick's line that includes Hawryluk and Coulter finished the night with thirteen combined points.
"A little bit of everything on that line," Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon said on CKLQ's post-game show. "I mentioned on one of the other post-game shows about being happy to see Jayce rewarded because his game is based on hard work. As a coach, when you've got a guy working that hard getting rewarded, that's something that sends a good message."
Provorov's goal late in the second period was the Smittys Lucky 7 goal, providing over 3,200 fans with a free breakfast (with the purchase of a beverage). Ticket holders will have until 11am daily between now and next Wednesday to take advantage of this popular promotion.
Tickets to Friday's game against Edmonton are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at keystoncentre.com. To place a reserved bid on one of the available jerseys, fans can call the Canadian Cancer Society (Manitoba) 571-2800.
