After moving to Plymouth in 1996, the Whalers defeated Guelph in six games in the first round of the 2003 playoffs. Guelph swept Plymouth in OHL Semi-Finals in four games in 1998 en route to the OHL Championship and again in 2004 in the Western Conference Semi-Finals - again en route to the OHL Championship.
