Danbury Whalers' center Andrew Willock scored twice on the power play, including the game-winner, as Danbury scored the last four goals of the game to win 5-3 over the 1000 Islands Privateers today at the Bonnie Castle Rec Center. 409 braved the cold weather to witness the contest.
The Whalers opened scoring early as Joe Dabkowski tallied. The Privateers responded as Adam Mcallister scored on the power play with assists going to Tyler Fernandez and Alex Lacombe. McAllister gave 1000 Islands the lead to end first period scoring, as Mike Byrd earned the helper. Justin Levac opened second period scoring off feeds from James Kirkwood and Marcus Pryde. Willock's first power-play goal made it 3-2. The Whalers tied the game early in the third period as Igor Karlov beat Privateers' goalie Karac Davis, while Willock converted his second goal of the game to seize the lead. The Privateers continued to test Peter Skoggard, but the Swede overcame the early deficit and stayed strong, stopping 32 of 35 shots in the game, including all 15 in the third period. Matt Carnaci added an empty-net goal to give Danbury just their third road win of the year. Coupled with Akwesasne's 7-4 win earlier, the Privateers sit five points out of first place.
The Privateers head on the road to play Rome Thursday night and Akwesasne Saturday night. The Privateers return home Sunday, January 30th at 3 PM to play the Warriors.
