Keene Swamp Bats News Release
The Danbury Westerners visited Alumni Field for the only time this season and opened the floodgates in the eighth inning to defeat the Swamp Bats by a score of 10-4.
Keene is quickly watching it's hopes of a playoff push slip away as they fall to a record of 8-21 on the season.
It was a pitchers dual at the beginning of the game between both starting pitchers, Bennett Sousa for the Swamp Bats and Chris Morris for the Westerners held both teams off the scoreboard for the first three innings.
Keene scored in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Danbury would be held off the scoreboard until the sixth inning, when it scored three runs, after five consecutive batters would reach base against relief pitcher Zach Willeman. Danbury took a 3-1 lead to the bottom of the sixth.
After Keene was able to score a run in the bottom of the sixth, the Swamp Bats had a big bottom of the seventh inning as it plated two runs off of an RBI double by Anthony Brocato and an RBI single by Ryan Karl and would give Keene a 4-3 lead into the eighth.
Danbury answered back in the eighth, and in big fashion; scoring on an RBI single by Cody Acker to tie the game and then on a sacrifice bunt by James Bunn to take a 5-4 lead.
They weren't done there. After Andrew Ryan was taken out of the game for Daniel Nations, with two men on base, Danbury would get back-to-back hits and string together another three runs for a five run eighth and take an 8-4 lead to the bottom of the eighth inning.
Keene was held scoreless in the final two innings, while the Westerners tacked on two more runs to take a 10-4 lead. The Swamp Bats had their losing streak extended to three games.
Ryan would be charged with four earned runs on three hits in 1.2 innings pitched. While Nations would be tagged with three earned runs on six hits through 1.1 innings pitched.
The Swamp Bats are back in action Friday night when they travel to North Adams to play the SteepleCats, with first pitch at 6:30.
