Western New York Flash to Host Boston Breakers

The Boston Breakers are off to Sahlen Stadium in Rochester, NY to challenge the Western New York Flash to a rematch (7:30 pm EST kickoff) in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). This is the last away game for the Breakers before they return to Harvard Stadium.

Friday is the second match between the Boston Breakers and the Western New York Flash. Currently, the Flash are in sixth place (7-9-3) while the Breakers are in last (3-13-2) in the NWSL standings.

On June 27th, the last meeting between the two, the Breakers fell to the Flash with a 2-1 game. This was their tenth loss of the season. While the Breakers were strong and looking for the win, the Flash came out harder and took the win with two goals from Carli Lloyd, Western New York Flash captain. It was a no score game throughout the first half. But in the 59th minute Lloyd score her first goal, a header, off of an assist from Brittany Taylor. The Breakers came back in the 71st minute when off of the foot of Maddy Evans, Nkem Ezurike was able to score, passing by Flash goalkeeper, Lydia Williams. Only 12 minutes later the Flash came back with their second and final goal of the game, an assist from Vicky Losada to Lloyd. During the last few minutes of play Lianne Sanderson and Jazmine Reeves both had shots on goal but were blocked by Williams. Ending the game a win for the Western New York Flash.

Ezurike, who was absent in the Thorns game last week due to injury, has had two goals this season as well as 5 shots on goal. Heather O'Reilly, midfielder for the Breakers, has played in 16 out of the 18 games this season, starting in 15 of them. She has had five goals and 25 shots on goal, giving her the top spot on the Breakers and sixth in the NWSL. Lloyd, for the Flash, is three spots below her with 21 shots on goal and has sixth goals, just one more than O'Reilly. Lloyd has started and played in 14 games for the Flash.

Reeves and O'Reilly are tied for goals on the Breakers each with 5. Reeves has started in 10 out of the 13 games she has played in and currently has one assists. Taylor, defender for the Flash, has started in all 19 games played by the Flash and has two goals as well as one assist this season.

The backbone of the Breakers, goalkeeper, Alyssa Naeher, holds the spot for saves in the NWSL with 77 and is also tied for the most minutes in goal with 1620 minutes. Williams is in seventh place for saves with 49 and has been in goal for 1183 minutes placing her at number eight.
