Westchester Nicks up Reno in Fourth-Quarter Comeback at NBA D-League Showcase

SANTA CRUZ, CA. - The Westchester Knicks (14-7) defeated the Reno Bighorns (11-8) 115-114 on Friday at the 2016 NBA Development League Showcase in Santa Cruz, CA.

Westchester completed a 14-point comeback after leading by 20 in the first quarter, behind Jordan Bachynski's 24 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks - his fifth double-double of the season. Darion Atkins recorded a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double to go along with seven assists and four blocks. Jimmer Fredette put up 21 points and six assists on 8-of-19 shooting. Sean Marshall chipped in 14 points in 33 minutes off the bench.

Erick Green, the D-League's active leading scorer, poured in a game-high 37 points on 12-of-17 shooting including his connection on six-of-seven three-point attempts. Vincent Hunter notched 22 points and a game-high 16 rebounds before fouling out, and David Stockton put up 17 points and seven assists on the afternoon.

The Knicks strong start helped them open up a 20-point lead at the 5:27 mark of the first quarter. Reno responded with a 16-3 run to close out the quarter, but the Knicks still led 37-31 after one. Westchester out-rebounded the Bighorns 16-4 in the opening period and shot 16-of-27 from the field (59 percent) to begin the game. Reno hit 12-of-24 from the field (50 percent) and recorded an assist on nine of their made baskets.

The Bighorns responded in the second quarter behind a combined 22 points from Green and Hunter, managing to cut into Westchester's advantage, but Reno still trailed 66-63 at halftime. Both teams finished the first half shooting over 50 percent from the floor, but Reno knocked down 7-of-12 from beyond the arc (58 percent).

Reno kept their momentum alive and outscored Westchester 30-15 in the third quarter. All eight Bighorns that saw minutes tallied a point. They evened-out the rebounding margin by grabbing 20 boards in the third, which led to 12 second-chance points. Bachynski did his best to keep Reno modest by blocking three shots in the third, but the Bighorns took a 93-81 lead into the fourth quarter.

Westchester bounced back in the final period of play with a 34-point effort on 13-of-20 shooting (65 percent). The Knicks recorded 11 assists during the fourth quarter, and held Reno to 7-of-23 from the field (30 percent) to complete the comeback.

Reno's next game will close out action at the 2016 NBA D-League Showcase, when the Bighorns face the Maine Red Claws on Sunday, Jan. 10 at 6 p.m. ET. Westchester will continue their road trip on Tuesday, Jan. 12 against the Iowa Energy, with tip scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
