EL1 New Hampshire Fisher Cats

'West Wing' to use Fisher Cats gear

November 24, 2004 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- The NBC show "The West Wing" plans on using memorabilia from the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Eastern League Champion Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, for their set in several future episodes. In the show, based on life in the West Wing of the White House, President Josiah Bartlet (played by Martin Sheen) is from a small town in New Hampshire. In upcoming episodes expected to air around February 2005, the storyline will be about a new presidential election and the campaign in New Hampshire during the primary. The Fisher Cats memorabilia would be used to add to the realism of the primary taking place in New Hampshire.

"The more real elements you can get into the set, the easier it is for the audience to believe that it is real," said Lloyd Brown, set decoration buyer for the show. Brown added that it is "very likely" that the Fisher Cats logo will be on screen in some capacity during future episodes.

The Fisher Cats sent Fisher Cats hats, t-shirts, pennants, bumper stickers, and more to the producers of the show for use on the set.

"The West Wing" airs Wednesday nights at 9:00 PM on NBC.

The Fisher Cats are getting ready for their second season, which begins on April 7, 2005 at their brand new ballpark on the banks of the Merrimack River in Manchester. The Fisher Cats will face the New Britain Rock Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, in their first game since winning the 2004 Eastern League Championship.
