Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
Kannapolis, NC—Kannapolis (11-35) was beaten 5-4 by West Virginia (24-21), Thursday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. Kannapolis fell behind early as the Power scored 3 runs in the first inning off Intimidators SP Daniel Cortes. Cortes would settle down and not allow another run before coming out following the 6th. The Intimidators bounced back to tie it up in the 3rd.
The I's drummed out 3 hits to start that inning, as Anderson Gomes banged a single to left to knock in Brandon Johnson, which put Kannapolis on the board. Later in the inning, Salvador Sanchez smashed a single, allowing Adam Ricks to score, and then Anderson Gomes flew in during the same play on a throwing error charged to Power 2B Ryan Crew. The Power took the lead in the 7th. I's RP Clevelan Santeliz walked Michael Brantley to start the inning. Brantley advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt dropped down by Darren Ford. After Santeliz was pulled, Rafael Flores gave up an RBI single stroked by Lorenzo Cain and an RBI triple cranked to left by Matt Gamel, which made it 5-3.
The I's responded with a run in the 7th on an RBI single from Brandon Johnson which scored Leo Acosta from third. However, that's as close as Kannapolis would get, as West Virginia emerged triumphant, 5-4. Clevlan Santeliz took the loss (0-2). Power SP Derek Miller improved to 5-1, despite surrendering 10 hits.
The Intimidators and Power conclude their 4-game series tomorrow night, at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. LHP Clayton Richard of Kannapolis faces West Virginia's LHP Dave Welch. The first pitch from Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium is scheduled for 7:05pm.
