West Virginia Black Bears News Release

The West Virginia Black Bears will host the first ever MLB Draft League Championship Game on Tuesday, September 6 at 6:35 p.m. at Monongalia County Ballpark. The Black Bears will play the visiting Williamsport Crosscutters in a one-game, winner-take-all showdown to determine who is crowned 2022 champion of the MLB Draft League.

Tickets are still available for the biggest game of the season for as low as $9.00 in advance. Season ticket holders and students get in free with valid ID, and walk-up tickets will be available for $11.00 per ticket. Promotional highlights of the Championship game feature a "Happy Hour" from 5:30 p.m. until first pitch with half-off all beverages, plus $2.00 hot dogs, $2.00 small popcorn boxes and $2.00 small drinks the entire evening.

The stage is set as the first-half champion Black Bears take on the second-half champion Crosscutters, who secured a spot in the big game with a 24-13 record the second half of the season (44-31 overall). West Virginia punched its ticket to the Championship by clinching the first-half title on Friday, July 15, with a 9-4 win over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. The Bears, led by manager Jedd Gyorko, finished the first half of the season with a 22-15 record.

West Virginia played two head-to-head series against Williamsport this season - both in the first half - with the Black Bears winning three of five contests. In their last meeting on June 30, the Crosscutters sealed the series win at Muncy Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field with an 8-5 victory, taking the final two of three games. West Virginia won the previous series against Williamsport at The Mon (June 20-22), prevailing in the first two games with double-digit scores before the third was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The Black Bears head into the Championship having won the final game of the regular season in Niles, Ohio, against the Scrappers. West Virginia ended the season with an overall record of 48-30, narrowly missing the second-half title, and finishing a half-game behind Williamsport in the standings.
