Mobile BayBears News Release
Mobile, Ala. â The BayBears began their three-game series against West Tenn with a bang on Tuesday night, however, the Diamond Jaxx came from behind to defeat the BayBears, 8-5. West Tenn scored three times against Rusty Tucker in the top of the ninth to break open the 5-5 game.
After the Diamond Jaxx scored once in the top of the first, the BayBears jumped on West Tenn starter Mike Nannini. Mobile pounded out four doubles, scoring four runs, to get out early 4-1.
Nannani settled in after the first, allowing just one hit in his six remaining innings of work.
BayBears starter Steve Watkins surrendered four runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out five in his seven frames.
Neither starter was around for the decision as the game went to the eighth inning tied 4-4.
In the top of the eighth, West Tenn took the lead against reliever Bryan Gaal as Jason Dubois hit a two-out, solo homerun just beyond the reach of center fielder Todd Donovan. Mobile would answer in their half of the inning. Bobby Scales drew a leadoff walk and scored as Rico Washington followed with a game-tying double off the left field wall.
In the ninth the Diamond Jaxx took control. They loaded the bases with a walk and a fielder's choice, followed by a single and another walk, all coming against Tucker. Brendan Harris cleared the bases with a two-out, three-run triple.
The BayBears and Diamond Jaxx will play game two of their series Wednesday night at 7:05. RHP Duncan McAdoo (3-4; 3.61) will start on the mound for Mobile.
