WESPY's Create Mickey Renaud Leadership Award

(Windsor) The Windsor Essex Sports Persons of Year (WESPY) Awards and Game Day Sports group today hosted a special press conference at TVCOGECO's Windsor office to announce the introduction of the newly created Windsor Minor Hockey & Windsor AAA Zone Mickey Renaud Leadership Award and other special additions for the 2008 WESPY Awards. The Renaud Leadership Award will be presented to one lucky local athlete for the first time at this year's WESPY Awards banquet scheduled for Tuesday October 7th, 2008 at the Caboto Club in Windsor.

The criteria for all participants to be selected as nominees for the award are as follows:

Potential recipient must be a Captain of a team based in Windsor and/or Essex County Potential recipient must be the Captain of a team for an entire season Must have strong community involvement and dedicate time to community events Must show leadership both on and off the playing surface Must show strength of character both on and off the playing surface Must contribute to the integrity of the team and display outstanding skills in all phases of the game Must be a major player in the success of the team by contributing in a key role either statistically or emotionally

Last year, Spitfires Captain Mickey Renaud was named the Male Hockey Player of the Year at the Windsor Essex Sports Persons of the Year Awards banquet. This marked the first time that a Spitfire player had received this award in its three year history.

The Windsor Spitfires would like to thank the WESPY committee and Game Day Sports for creating an award which honours our Captain Mickey Renaud in this most prestigious fashion.
