March 16, 2015 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wenatchee Wild News Release
With fantastic showings from the entire Wild bench, Wenatchee was able to send the Bulls on their way with a 5-2 weekend closer. Looking to continue on with the strong performances, the Wild are continuing to make strides within the Southern Division. Three spots have been clinched in the South for the post-season, and with only three remaining, it will be an extreme race to the finish over the next two weeks before the regular season officially ends. All of the Wenatchee players are supporting the team's fighting spirit and are looking to continue the fight until the absolute end. August Von Ungern-Sternberg was able to take home the 3rd Star of the Game after this strong match.
Seven seconds into the opening frame, Mike Coyne set the Wild off on an early start when he was able to beat Amarillo goaltender Anton Martinsson with the assistance of Ryan Gotelaere.
George Mika closed the scoring gap for the Bulls fifteen minutes and forty two seconds into the middle frame when he was fed the puck by Will Harrison.
Kicking things into high gear, August Von Ungern-Sternberg gave Wenatchee the 2-1 lead nine and a half minutes into the final period after he was successfully set up by Tyler Rockwell and Gotelaere. Two minutes later, August netted his second point of the night on the power play after he received the biscuit from Chris Jones and Rockwell. Kyle Stephan hopped on the Wild's scoring train and gave the home team their 4-1 lead 12 seconds later. Tyler Rockwell and David Powlowski picked up points for their assists on this goal. Elijah Barriga netted Amarillo's final goal fifty two seconds after Stephan and was helped along by Kyle Hartman and Cody Gylling. Chris Jones put this game away with his unassisted empty net goal at the 18:49 minute mark.
The Wild ended the night with 32 total shots on goal and only three infractions. Penalties were called out on Andre Pison (Holding), Ryan Gotelaere (Checking From Behind), and Kyle Stephan (Unsportsmanlike Conduct).
Both Quinn and Bullion saw net time, and a total of 26 shots were saved. Bullion was able to stop 22 and Quinn saved the remaining four.
To quote Coach Littler, "Big win for us tonight. We had good goaltending and a nice effort from everyone. Can't wait to get back to the Wolves den next weekend."
Wenatchee will host both their remaining series for the year when the Lone Star Brahmas and the Topeka RoadRunners visit the Town Toyota Center. The Brahmas will be in Wenatchee March 20th and 21st and the RoadRunners will play their three games spanning March 27th-29th.
