
Weller Nets Hat Trick in Preseason Win over Stockton

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, official ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, knocked off the Stockton Thunder 5-3, Saturday night at Rabobank Arena. Shawn Weller scored a hat trick in his first game in a Condors uniform.
The Condors dominated play for 60 minutes, out-shooting the Thunder 50-24 in the contest. Maxime Macenauer and Mathieu Aubin also scored goals for the Condors, who finished preseason play 2-0, with a pair of wins over Stockton. Justin Pogge and Jean-Philippe Levasseur split time in goal. Pogge stopped eight of 10 shots for the victory, while Levasseur made 13 saves.
The Condors opened the scoring at 7:53 of the first period. Stephane Goulet found Macenauer in the slot for a one-timer past Andrew Perugini, who made 45 stops on the night. Judd Blackwater evened the score with 4:12 remaining the first period, swatting home a rebound past Pogge. The Condors scored two quick goals in the final two minutes of the first period to take a 3-1 lead. Aubin tallied his first of the preseason off a rebound, with assists going to Pierre-Luc Lessard and Andrew Ianiero with 1:49 to play. Weller capped off the first period scoring 34 seconds later with a backhand from in close. The Condors finished the first period with a 20-4 shot advantage.
In the second period, the Condors and Thunder traded goals. Weller scored his second of the game to make it 4-1 just 44 seconds into the frame on a breakaway after John de Gray fed him a 90-foot breakout pass. Stockton cut the lead to 4-2 when Steve Slonina scored his second of the preseason at 7:17 of the second period, while shorthanded.
The Condors continued to dominate in the shots department, but were unable to pull away from Stockton on the scoreboard. Stockton cut the lead to 4-3 on a goal by Chad McCaffrey, 2:13 into the third period. Weller salted the game away with his third goal, an empty net, shorthanded tally with 58 seconds to play.
