Mahoning Valley Thunder News Release

BOARDMAN, Ohio- The Mahoning Valley Thunder is pleased to announce that Chris Curd has been assigned to the team by the arenafootball2 League Offices. A Wide Receiver/Linebacker, Curd (6'3, 210) is in his second season of af2.

Curd is a Mahoning Valley native, who grew up on the North side of Youngstown and attended Ursuline high school. As a member of the Irish, Curd was widely regarded as one of the top prep players in the entire state. A two way player, Curd was named All-North Eastern Ohio, All-Steel Valley Conference, All-State, All-Region and was invited to participate in the Ohio North-South All-Star Football Classic. As a senior, Curd's Ursuline team advanced to the Ohio Regional Championships. Chris also excelled on the track, competing in the state track and field tournament in his final two years at Ursuline. Curd placed sixth in the hurdles as a Junior and second in the 4x4 as a Senior.

Widely recruited as both a Wide Receiver and Defensive Back, Curd accepted a scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh. In his Panthers career, the multi-talented Curd lined up on both sides of the ball at a number of positions including; Wide Receiver, Safety, Tight End and Linebacker. In 2000, he was selected to the Big-East All-Academic team. Following his collegiate career, Chris spent time in the NFL's Atlanta Falcons training camp and was a member of the AFL's Columbus Destroyers and Georgia Force. In 2007, Curd played for the af2's Albany Conquest, a division rival of the Thunder.

As a member of the Conquest, Curd played in 15 games recording 93 catches for 1,090 yards and 28 touchdowns. Though used mainly as a receiver, Curd also managed 22 tackles and an interception in spot duty as a Defensive Back. The Ursuline product proved to be a thorn in the side of his hometown team. In two games against Mahoning Valley a year ago, Curd found the end zone five times and recorded his lone interception of the season.

NEWLY ACQUIRED CHRIS CURD:

"This is a thrill for me to come back to the Mahoning Valley. When I came back here last year (as a member of the Conquest) I was overwhelmed with the show of support the fans gave me, I really appreciated all the love. That's something that stuck with me and I felt compelled to come back and represent the city of Youngstown and Ursuline high school if I ever had the chance. This is a unique situation to be able to play in front of so many of my friends and family. I'm blessed to be a part of what is a top notch organization and I can't wait to get on the field."

The Mahoning Valley Thunder returns home Saturday, May 31st on Cortland Banks Field inside the Chevrolet Centre to host the division rival Albany Conquest! Be a part of all the action in 2008 as the Thunder continues their climb towards the ArenaCup9 Championship. Individual tickets are on sale now starting at just $12. Group Outings and Birthday Parties for individual games also available. For more information call the Thunder Offices at 330.758.4af2 (4232).
