Georgia Swarm News Release
Dear Swarm Fan,
CONFIDENCE!
It's a word you hear often in the sports world, oftentimes bordering on cliché. But I'm here to tell you that I'm blown away daily by the confidence our organization, our fans, our local community, and our country as a whole has shown in the face of this generational crisis.
While different models predict different ways our country re-opens to things once deemed "normal," please know the fabric of our communities - and the positive bonds we share with our fellow human beings - will fuel how we overcome and eventually prevail.
So, while the impact on the sports world in 2020 has been profound, I've never been more proud of the resolve, the innovation, and the resilience of people who play, administer, and watch sports - most specifically, the very special LAX community that is the bedrock of our fan base.
GAME UPDATES
While our regular season has been canceled, I have no additional information at this time regarding the potential for 2019-20 season playoffs.
PROGRAMMING AND OTHER NOTES
Georgia a LAX Hotbed: The state of Georgia is becoming a leader in the growth of the sport of lacrosse. Don't believe me? Well numbers don't lie. A recent article in Inside Lacrosse Magazine detailed how the four states of Georgia, Colorado, Texas, and Michigan have accounted for 13% of the Division 1 collegiate freshmen lacrosse players in 2020. You can view the trajectory in the chart above, as Georgia produced at least 20 Division 1 freshmen lacrosse players in four of the last five years, including 30 in 2020. This is just one measure of how our sport is growing, but I thought you would all like to see how much more ingrained our original sport is in our culture as we enter this new decade.
NLL Educational Challenge - Have school age kids? Then listen up... Alongside Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, National Football League in partnership with United Way Worldwide, National Hockey League in partnership with the National Hockey League Players' Association, National Lacrosse League, and the Premier League, our partner EVERFI will be bringing the EduCup Challenge to K-12 students throughout the U.S. and Canada.
The EduCup Challenge is a two-week competition encouraging students to engage in learning and healthy habits as learned through guided courses and showcased through daily social media challenges. Running May 18-29, students will have the opportunity to experience the digital courses co-created by EVERFI and the professional sports leagues and submit responses to a series of questions about the course(s) taken in order to be eligible to win an academic scholarship or other prizes. We encourage the Swarm community with grade, middle, and high school children to check it out.
SwarmFit - Congrats to our SwarmFit Trick shot challenge winner, Jackson Wolfe. If I could borrow from the vernacular of those much younger than me, his winning trick shot is just plain sick! Way to put that English on the ball, Jackson, and congratulations on topping hundreds of entries to take home the grand prize of an Epoch lacrosse stick.
