Weekly Preview: Mascots Invade Geneva this Sunday to Celebrate Rusty's Birthday

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - It's time to celebrate Steel mascot Rusty's birthday at the Chicago Steel game this Sunday! Mascots from the Chicagoland area have been invited to participate in the special day at Fox Valley Ice Arena when the Steel take on the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders at 3:05 pm!

The fan-favorite promotional event includes mascots from all over the region participating in off-ice activities and interacting with fans before taking their skills to the ice for a mascot hockey game during the second intermission.

Rusty's mascot friends scheduled to attend include DASH (Chicagoland Speedway), SPARKY (Chicago Fire FC), SKATES (Chicago Wolves), DIBS (DePaul University), OZZIE (Kane County Cougars), BUBBLES (The Learning Experience), and LU WULF (Loyola University).

The Jan. 26th contest is a Topgolf Family Pack game with a great deal for families including four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas, four chuck-a-pucks, four stadium seat pads and four $10 off Topgolf gameplay cards starting at just $48. The Family Pack must be purchased in advance as it is not available on the day of the game. Following the game action, the entire Steel team will be available to sign autographs for fans.

The first place Steel (27-4-1-0, 55 pts) have won a franchise record 13 games in a row dating back to Nov. 30 and have taken victories in 20 of their last 21 outings.

Chicago is coming off a two-game sweep of the Omaha Lancers on Jan. 17 and 18. The USHL's leader in points, Sean Farrell, scored the overtime game-winner in a 5-4 victory on Friday and defenseman John Spetz registered a career-best, four-point night (2G, 2A) in Saturday's 6-1 win.

RoughRider netminder Derek Mullahy has played the third-most minutes in the USHL this season among goalies. His 669 total saves rank second in the league and he has posted an 8-12-2-1 record with a 3.21 goals-against average and an .896 save percentage. Forward Grant Silianoff ranks second on the team with 22 points (8G, 14A) in 29 games this season. The Edina, Minn., native was rated as a 'C'-level skater on NHL Central Scouting's Watch List released on Nov. 11, 2019.

Sunday's game begins the first of three straight at home for Chicago. The Steel host back-to-back home games on Fri., Jan. 31 against the Madison Capitols and Sat., Feb. 1 versus the Des Moines Buccaneers.

Friday's Eastern Conference clash against the Capitols features a one-time-only black alternate jersey for the Steel with the uniforms auctioned off for a great cause. The 7:05 pm puck drop is A Night for Geneva Students Presented by FONA International with the jersey auction to benefit the Geneva Academic Foundation.

Star Wars Night headlines the Saturday showdown against the Des Moines Buccaneers with appearances from characters and a Star Wars-themed game presentation! The Raising Cane's Kids Day ticket package is available on Saturday - a $10 deal for kids ages 12 and under that includes a ticket, a Steel drawstring backpack and a Raising Cane's Box Combo card.
