Janesville Jets News Release
The Janesville Jets rebounded from a 4-3 overtime loss on opening night to shut out the Kenai River Brown Bears, 2-0, on Saturday to split the weekend series.
With a win and an overtime loss, the Jets picked up three points in the standings and find themselves in second place in the Midwest Division. Next weekend's opponent, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, won their first four games and lead the division with eight points.
Saturday's win saw NAHL rookie Jack LaFontaine stop all 15 pucks directed his way for his first win and shutout. Rob Marsanico scored midway through the second period to break the scoreless tie, and alternate captain Nils Rygaard clinched the win with a late empty net goal.
Roberts Smits, Joey Rutkowski, and Cullen Munson scored in Friday's contest.
Tuesday morning the Jets will take to the road on their way to the 13th annual NAHL Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota. All 22 NAHL teams play four regular season games during the five-day event. The Schwan Super Rink is the largest ice arena of its kind in the world, featuring eight sheets of ice over 300,000+ square feet. The Jets will play the Topeka RoadRunners, the Odessa Jackalopes, the Aberdeen Wings, and the Minnesota Magicians in front of more than 300 NCAA, junior, and professional scouts.
