Weekend Preview: Bulls Visit Topeka This Weekend

THE SERIES: It's the ninth and 10th meetings of the season between the Amarillo Bulls and the Topeka RoadRunners. The Bulls have a 4-0-1 mark in the last five games against Topeka in the series, including three wins in a row at Kansas Expo Center. Omar Mullan and Ryan Cole each have eight points, while Mike Davis and John Rey have seven apiece. Mullan and Davis each have four goals. Forwards Sean Gaffney and Kyle Sharkey have combined for 25 points for the RoadRunners. Sharkey has six goals, while Gaffney has added 10 helpers.

WEEKEND REWIND: The Amarillo Bulls are coming off a 1-0-1 record against the Corpus Christi IceRays last weekend. The Bulls beat the IceRays 5-2 and then dropped a 4-3 decision in a shootout. TJ Sarcona notched two goals on Friday, while Matt Sieckhaus, Gage Christianson and Clint Carlisle added singles. On Saturday, goals came off the sticks of TJ Sarcona, John Rey and Ryan Cole.

The Topeka RoadRunners took a pair of games on home ice against the Wichita Falls Wildcats, posting 6-3 and 3-1 victories. MacKenzie Sawyer notched both wins in goal.

STANDINGS UPDATE: It's a slim one point lead for the Amarillo Bulls over the Texas Tornado for first place in the South Division. That same one point cushion is what the Bulls have over the Austin Bruins for first place in the NAHL Overall standings. The RoadRunners are nine back in third place. The Corpus Christi IceRays have a narrow six point lead on the Wichita Falls Wildcats for fourth in the South Division.

STEAKS AND TRENDS: The month of January has been a tough one for the Amarillo Bulls as they have a record of 2-1-3. This was after a 9-1-0 month of December. The Topeka RoadRunners are 4-2-1 after a 3-3-0 month of December. Four teams are tied for first place with eight shorthanded goals scored this season. The Bulls, Topeka RoadRunners Janesville Jets and Austin Bruins all have eight. There are three more teams back in second place including the South Division Corpus Christi IceRays.
