SOUTHAVEN, Miss. While the Mississippi RiverKings knocked off the Peoria Rivermen in a pair of games this weekend, the organization also helped the hungry during Saturday night's canned food drive.
The RiverKings teamed up with the Bott Radio Network, AM 640 and 100.7FM, and Colonial Hills Church to raise over 180 items for the Food Pantry. The team offered a $2 discount off of regular priced adult tickets. Ann Erwin with the Colonial Hills Church Food Pantry expressed appreciation for the donation made by the team.
"We are thankful for every food item we received from the RiverKings fans, and remember to check on friends and neighbors," said Erwin. "You would be surprised with the number of families that don't have enough to eat."
The Food Pantry at Colonial Hills Church helps hundreds of people a year with supplying food & household supplies. Not only do they need non-perishable goods, they need financial support to purchase perishable items for families as well.
The RiverKings return home next weekend for a pair of games at the Landers Center in Southaven. Columbus visits the Mid-South for the first time this season on Friday night, while Huntsville comes to town on Saturday. Both games start at 7:05 p.m.
