Week Nine Player-of-the-Week Awards Announced

Omaha, NE â Big men get group award and "The Champ" gets defensive honors. United Indoor Football is proud to announce Players-of-the-Week awards for Week 9 of the 2005 season. Weekly awards are presented in three categories: Offense, Defense and Special Teams.
Week 9 Offensive Player(s) of the Week weighs in at 985lbs. That happens to be the combined weight of the Omaha Beef's offensive line. The Beef line beat out last week's offensive player of the week, Ft. Wayne wide receiver Jeremy Dutcher, for the week 9 award. Ductcher did put up impressive numbers again in week 9 with 7 catches, 135 yards and 4 touchdowns against Peoria, but the Beef's bigmen were virtually impenetrable Saturday nigh against the Bandits and helped Omaha win their first game ever in Sioux City. Omaha's starting offensive line is made up of Dan Potmesil, Cody Beguin and Brett Wetton. The three Beef bigmen helped create 253 total yards of offense, including 170 yards on the ground on 43 attempts. Along with nearly a 4 yard average on running, Omaha's line gave up zero sacks on the night and had no penalties called against them. The Beef hope their heavyweights can help lead them to another road win this weekend when they travel to Black Hills to take on the Red Dogs Saturday night.
Anthony Kelly was "The Champ" for Lexington on defense last Sunday afternoon. Kelly, know locally as "The Champ", helped lead Lexington to one of their biggest wins on the year and perhaps their greatest defensive efforts of the season. The Horsemen's defensive back earned week 9 Defensive Player of the Week honors as he helped Lexington beat the visiting Tupelo FireAnts 75-13 in Rupp Arena. Kelly was instrumental in the Horsemen secondary recording 2 pass breakups and 3 interceptions on the night. Those 3 interceptions led to 88 return yards and one touchdown. "The Champ" also recorded 4.5 tackles on the night to help hold the FireAnts to 95 total yards offense and 13 points on the afternoon.
Wrapping up the week 9 awards in the Special Teams category is Evansville kicker Erik Rockhold. Rockhold scored 12 of the teams 48 points in route to a Bluecats win over visiting Tennessee Valley. He was 3 for 5 on point after attempts and was 3 for 3 on field goals, including kicks of 19, 25 and 44 yards. The Bluecats kicker narrowly beat out fellow footmen Justin Hutton (Lexington Horsemen) and Josh Telenko (Ft. Wayne Freedom), both of which had strong performances for their special teams. Rockhold hopes to add another dozen point to his total this weekend in Sioux Falls when the Bluecats travel to take on the Storm.
