Corpus Christi Sharks News Release

The Corpus Christi Sharks (5-10) notched their fourth victory in the last five games with a 28-14 drubbing of the Laredo Lobos (1-14) last Saturday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Despite the relatively close score the Sharks controlled the tempo and most of the game. Laredo took an early 7-0 lead when the Lobo's LaRon Ragsdale - after appearing to be stopped short of the end zone - was ruled to have scored. Without hesitation the Sharks, behind QB John De Los Santos, responded with a 9 yard touchdown pass to WR Steve Smith and then again on a 34 yarder giving the Sharks a 14 -7 lead. De Los Santos then found WR Ryan Voss who made a spectacular one handed catch for a 6 yard touchdown just before halftime. The play increased the Sharks lead to 21 - 7 at the break. In the second half, the Sharks final touchdown of the game turned out to be one of the more interesting plays of the season. Fullback Asa Poole broke free across midfield only to lose control of the ball, fortunately for the Sharks, veteran WR Steve Smith grabbed the loose ball and scampered the remaining 20 yards for the score. Smith, for the 2nd week in a row, scored three (3) touchdowns and was the named the Offensive player of the game.
