Wolves Pregame Notes
The #4 seeded Manchester Wolves (10-6) will be hosting an American Conference First-Round arenafootball2 playoff game for the second consecutive season this Friday, August 3, at 7:30 p.m. when they'll host the #5 seeded Central Valley Coyotes.
The playoff game, which will take place on Brady Sullivan Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena, will be the first-time these clubs have ever faced off against each other.
The Wolves are entering Friday's contest with a season-high five-game win streak that featured big victories over two previously #4 ranked teams (South Georgia Wildcats, Florida Firecats) and a #1 ranked Wilkes-Barre Scranton Pioneers team that was undefeated before their loss to Manchester. Last season the Wolves entered the post-season riding a four-game win streak before defeating the Pioneers, 55-47, in the first-round of the American Conference playoffs at home. The Coyotes will enter the post-season winning three of their last four games of the regular season, which includes last week's 54-20 victory over the Bakersfield Blitz. Central Valley will be once again be without their starting quarterback Clay Groefsema (3,508 yards, 75 touchdowns) so Brian Luke, who is currently 2-1 as a Coyote starter, will continue to guide the helm. Former Manchester quarterback Ryan Porter, currently the Coyotes backup, could see some time on a field where he was 2-0 as a starter and threw 14 touchdowns, 449 yards and no interceptions if Luke doesn't step up to the task. "Central Valley has consistently been a quality team for the last few years and nothing has changed with the 2007 version," said Wolves Head Coach Ben Bennett. "You don't win 10 games in this league by accident. We will certainly have our work cut out for us against them." The game will be the second consecutive first-round home playoff game for the Wolves, won 55-47 over Wilkes-Barre Scranton Pioneers in 2006, and third consecutive season hosting a home playoff game, second-round loss to the Louisville Fire, 69-56, in 2005. Manchester has reached the second-round of the af2 playoffs the last two seasons. Tickets for this Friday's game will be $20.00 in the lower bowl and $10.00 in the upper bowl, with a special offering for kids 12 and under. Kids under 12 will get in free with a purchase of one regular priced adult ticket (limit of 4 free tickets per adult ticket). Don't miss another exciting season of Manchester Wolves football in 2007!
