Week 19 Preview: Talons Host Soul
July 25, 2013 - Arena Football League (AFL)
San Antonio Talons News Release
The San Antonio Talons (9-8) will look to end the regular season on a high note when they host Philadelphia Soul (12-5) at home on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 8:00pm CST in the Alamo city. Week 17 MVP Rohan Davey had a tough go against the Shock in Week 18, throwing five interceptions and turning the ball over eight times. He was under pressure all night, and could not seem to find his form that was showcased against the Tampa Bay Storm where he threw for a career-high eight touchdowns. The Talons looked like they were in good position to pull off the upset against the Shock after they took a 10-0 lead early in the first quarter. Unfortunately they would be outscored 77-20 in the next three quarters by Spokane.
On the other hand, Philadelphia is in a great position to return to the Arena Bowl for the second time in two seasons. The Soul, winners of their last seven put on an impressive performance on the road last week against the San Jose SaberCats. Quarterback Dan Raudabaugh connected on 20 of his 33 pass attempts for 181 yards and five touchdowns helping the Soul to record a 65-43 victory at one of the toughest places to play in all of Arena Football.
This will be the first time the teams have faced each other since the Talons relocated to San Antonio in 2012. The matchup will feature two of the better quarterbacks in the Arena Football League, Rohan Davey and Dan Raudabaugh (3rd in the AFL in Passing).
The Talons will certainly need a better performance on both sides of the ball if they hope to keep pace with the aggressive Soul. Defensive Lineman Joe Sykes recorded another sack last week, giving him a league leading 13.5 for the season. After setting the record last season in sacks with 16, Sykes will look to wreak havoc yet again this week against one of the best offensive teams in the league.
The Soul's defense has been nothing short of stellar in the last 3 weeks, holding each of their opponents below 45 points. Bryan Robinson (4th in the AFL in sacks) leads a stingy defensive front, against an offense that struggled mightily just last week. Essentially the Talons will have to find a way to score points if they want to defeat one of the hottest teams in the league.
Davey would definitely like to revenge his subpar performance from last week and help the Talons end the regular season on a high note. The Soul has won seven in a row and would like to ride the momentum they have created into the post season. The Talons would like nothing more than to disrupt the Soul and have them second guessing their chances to return to their second consecutive arena bowl.
The San Antonio Talons are in their second season in the Arena Football League (AFL). The team won the AFL's Central Division title, as well as hosted their first AFL playoff game in the 2012 season. For more information or to ask about season tickets please call 210.227.TEAM.
