Waza Flo News Release
After taking their first win of the season in Louisville on Friday night, the Detroit Waza (1-2) could not maintain that momentum, as they would lose to the Cincinnati Kings (3-0) 10-3 on Saturday night.
"It was one of those nights where we were simply not clicking," said Waza co-coach Dominic Scicluna. "We had hoped to maintain the tempo that we had in Louisville and parlay that into a strong effort against the Kings. Unfortunately, we couldn't make enough offensive chances pay off. Cincinnati is a strong team, but we just didn't make our best showing."
Matt Johnson, Niki Djokic, and Doug Rice each scored once for the Waza. Jeff Hughes led the Kings in scoring with three tallies, Matt Brienes added two, and Sam Fiore, Drew Ducker, Chris Dobrowski, Adam Ross, and Eddie Hertsenberg scored once.
A scary moment for the Waza happened in the first half when 'keeper Vito Lonigro went down with what looked like an apparent serious knee injury. Fortunately, Lonigro, who was in goal for the Waza's first win the evening before, was able to work off the injury and return to the field in the second quarter. In his stead, Matt Lividini worked solidly in goal, playing a total of fifteen minutes between the pipes.
The Detroit Waza are charter members of the Professional Arena Soccer League, which is starting its third season of play. The Waza will open the home portion of their 2010-11 schedule on Sunday, December 5th, when they will host the Cincinnati Kings at the Taylor Sportsplex at 4:30PM.
