Brazil defeats Canada 7-4 in World Cup Action At Perani

Brazil traveled to Michigan on Tuesday and beat Canada 7-4 at the Perani Arena in Flint Michigan in their second game of the 2015 WMF World Cup Group C action. On Monday evening in Rochester, New York, Brazil took on and conquered Russian 9-4 in the first game for their group.

Action started early when #11 for Brazil Elmo Neto scored just two minutes into the 1st quarter from a pass by #7 Sobreira and then again just two minutes later a goal by #22 Daniel Martini Mattos to set the pace for Brazil for the night.

The first quarter would prove to be the most action for the night in goals when Brazil again scored in the 7th minute by #10 Mauricio Salles. Canada would take a turn in the quarter to score when Josh Bennett connected and found net at 11:21 but Brazil would counter just minutes later as #15 Dias scored in the 13th minute of play to cap the score of 4-1 with Brazil leading.

Each team would score in the 2nd quarter exchanging one goal apiece. Brazil's came first at 3:36 in the 2nd but off a defensive move by Canada when #3 Louis-Charles Laliberte tried to slide it out and went into the net and #6 Lucas Bunster Almeida was credited with the goal as he was a part of the melee as well. Canada would however score a goal just seconds left at 14:55 in the 2nd quarter as #99 Freddy Moojen scored and ended the half with a score of Brazil 5 and Canada 2.

After halftime, the teams again would exchange one goal each as just minutes into play at 2:31 in the 3rd quarter, Brazil scored first again as #7 Sobreira scored with an assist by #15 Dias. It would not be until the last minute of play again at 14:13 that Canada would find the back of the net with a goal by #10 Babineau and assisted by #26 Ian Bennett. The 3rd quarter would end with a score of 6-3 as Brazil's lead was now cut in half.

Canada came out strong after head coach Dominic Scicluna encouraged them inbetween the quarters and would direct them from the bench. Canada inched closer to Brazil as #99 Moojen scored his second goal of the night 7 minutes into the quarter. Just two goals behind, Canada's momentum picked up hoping to slow down Brazil's quick tempo but just minutes later, Brazil closed out the game with another goal. This last goal of the night came in the 8th minute as #11 Neto for Brazil scored his second of the night as well with an assist by #15 Dias who ended the night with two assists and a goal and the 7-4 lead for Brazil would hold for the game.

The next matchup for Canada will come first when they meet Russia at 6pm kickoff at Perani Arena. Brazil will play next at 7:30pm against Serbia. All four teams in this World Cup Group C pairing are vying for a spot in the quarterfinal game tomorrow. The top two teams in each of the three groups will move on as well as two wild cards.

Brazil leads the group and has essentially already earned a spot in the quarterfinals with a standing of 1-0-0 and 6 points, Canada is in second with 1-1-0 and 3 points and Serbia and Russia find themselves tied in 3rd place with a record of 0-1-1 and 1 point each.
