Detroit Waza Flo Lose in Heartbreaking Overtime Action

November 10, 2014 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Waza Flo News Release

In front of an enthusiastic crowd, Detroit just fell short of picking up a win against the Rochester Lancers. The game had everything fans could wish for in goals, miraculous saves, and some hard-hitting action.

Rochester opened the scoring early with a pair of goals from Mauricio Salles and a goal from Gary Boughton to jump out to an early 3-0 lead. Miki Djerisilo and Nik Djokic scored the next two to cut the deficit to a goal but Rochester jumped to a four-goal cushion with two goals from Joey Tavernese and one from Edgar Bartolomeu. Djerisilo added a goal before halftime to go into the break down 6-3.

Rochester striker Andrew Hoxie scored early in the second half but Detroit stormed back with goals from Victor Otieno, Worteh Sampson, Zack Wilkes, and Daniel Mattos to tie up the game at 7-7.

Midway through the final quarter Salles slotted home a power play goal to regain the advantage for the Lancers. With just 52 seconds left on the clock and a 6th attacker on the field Otieno once again found the back of the net to tie things up and send the game into a sudden death, ten minute overtime period. Detroit successfully killed off a penalty in the frame but tragedy struck off the foot of Salles to give Rochester the 9-8 victory.

Detroit now falls to 1-1 overall on the season while Rochester wins their first game of the season. This weekend Detroit hits the road to take on the Baltimore Blast (Friday) and the Harrisburg Heat (Saturday). Baltimore is coming off of a statement win over Syracuse while Harrisburg's only other contest was an 8-4 loss to the Waza Flo on November 1st. Both games will be streamed live on GoLiveSportsCast.com.
