
Wayne Messmer to Perform National Anthem, Opening Day, June 7

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Chicago Bandits have announced that National Anthem icon Wayne Messmer will perform the National Anthem on Thursday, June 7 as the Bandits officially open the 2012 season.
Opening Day will feature the 2011 Champions versus the USSSA Pride at 7:35 p.m. in a rematch of the 2011 NPF Championship Series. The game will also feature a special 2011 Championship banner unveiling.
Messmer, a Chicago native, has sung the National Anthem for over thirty years for almost every major Chicago sports team spending three years as a field announcer and soloist with the White Sox. He also spent 13 seasons as the soloist for the Blackhawks. Since 1985, he has been associated with the Cubs and is a current performer at Wolves games as well.
"This is a great thing for the Bandits and for our fans," said Community Relations Director Jacquie Boatman. "Wayne Messmer has been "The Voice" of so many great teams in Chicago and we're honored that he'll be singing for us as we open the season."
In addition to his solo performances, Messmer also broadcasts a weekly radio show, Homelife Jazz with Wayne Messmer, on Sunday evenings from 6-7 p.m. on WDCB 90.9 FM and wdcb.org. He is also the author of The Voice of Victory, which covers his professional career and his comeback from an armed robbery in 1994 where he was shot in the throat.
The Bandits will kick off the 2012 season on Saturday, June 2 with a special day designed for fans, including a meet-n-greet.
